Yesterday, some friends were over for dinner. What was on the menu?

Easy: Doritos w/ chilisauce, mascarpone and a cheese gratin for starters, Pasta with mascarpone-garlic shrimp as main, chocolate cake with hand-whipped whipped cream for desert.

All went well, except for the pasta. I decided to do the black pasta, just because of the fishy taste, and it would be contrasting very well with the pinkish shrimp. While cooking the pasta, I kept my eyes on it very well and yes, that’s where all of a sudden I saw little larvae thrifting around in the boiling water. I started to poke around to be sure that it were little larvae I’d seen floating around.

Damn. Larvae. Dinner. Saturday evening. I had a similar experience a while ago, it also occured while cooking black sepia pasta. Luckily there was plenty of pasta in stock, so I could easily whip on a fresh, larvae-free dish.

For the rest of it, it all went just the way it should be. Had fun, didn’t drink too much this time, and the chocolate choco-frosted cake with a big dab of hand-whipped(!) cream was delicious. Ooh… I just had another piece of cake, yes, I had it too, thank you.

The morning after usually is a bit of a hangover moment; being faced with the mess of the evening before I quickly sobered up and started putting all in the dishwasher. I’m so happy there is one! It took 2 loads before it all was set and done, but now I need to thinkg of dinner. *sigh*
